PATIENT PRE-TEST PROTOCOL

CLIA-Certified Diagnostic Facility

Duval & St. Johns Counties, FL

β˜• 1. The Golden Rule of Fasting
🚫
No Food or Calories for 8–12 Hours

Do not consume any meals, snacks, milk, juice, coffee (including black coffee), tea, soda, or alcohol prior to fasting panels.

🍬
Avoid Mints, Gum & Lozenges

Even sugar-free gum or mints stimulate digestion and can artificially skew glucose and metabolic enzymes.

⏰
Schedule Early Morning Collection

We recommend 7:00 AM – 10:00 AM appointments or mobile concierge visits so your fasting overnight window ends smoothly.

πŸ’§ 2. Hydration: Water is Encouraged!
βœ…
Water Does NOT Break Your Fast

Drinking plain water is not only permitted, it is strongly encouraged before any blood draw or urinalysis.

🩸
Plump Veins = Gentle, Quick Draw

Drink 16–24 oz (2–3 glasses) of water 1 hour before your appointment. Dehydration narrows veins, making collection difficult.

🌑️
Keep Warm

Warm arms promote healthy circulation. If it's cool outside, wear a warm sweater until you sit in the phlebotomy chair.

πŸ’Š 3. Prescription Medications & Vitamins
🩺
Continue Routine Prescriptions

Take your normal blood pressure, cardiac, and thyroid medications with water unless your physician explicitly advised otherwise.

⚠️
Hold High-Dose Biotin (Vitamin B7)

Supplements with >5,000 mcg Biotin can interfere with immunoassays (Troponin, Thyroid TSH/FT4). Hold for 48 hours prior.

πŸ’‰
Diabetic Medications

Consult your doctor before taking insulin or oral hypoglycemics while fasting to avoid unexpected hypoglycemia.

πŸ“‹ 4. What to Bring to the Clinic
πŸͺͺ
Valid Government Photo ID

Driver’s license, Florida state ID, military ID, or passport required for patient verification and chain of custody.

πŸ“„
Doctor's Requisition (If Applicable)

If your doctor provided an order slip, bring it. Self-pay and direct wellness walk-in patients do NOT need a doctor's order.

πŸ‘•
Loose, Short-Sleeved Clothing

Wear loose sleeves that roll up easily above the crease of your elbow for seamless, comfortable venipuncture.
